Commemorating the greatest one day races on earth The Monuments T-shirt is made from a soft cotton fabric and features an icon for each of the five annual cycling classics.
Punctuating the annual racing calendar like a series jewels in a glorious crown “The Monuments” are cycling’s ultimate prizes. Whereas the Grand Tours languidly wind their way through the sunflower filled fields and vineyards of Eurpol, bathed in sunshine and surrounded by plenty of pomp and pageantry, the cycling classics are an altogether grittier affair.
The long-distance epic “Milan San-Remo” is the curtain-raiser, followed by the Tour of Flanders with its short, sharp hills and slippery cobble sections. Paris-Roubaix is third on the list and considered by many the biggest race outside the Tour de France. Its vicious cobbled sections, unpredictability, and iconic velodrome finish make it one of the biggest challenges on two wheels. Little wonder the “Hell of the North” moniker has become so fitting. Heading back into the Belgian countryside, Liege Bastogne Liege – or “La Doyenne” – is the fourth chapter in our five part drama. Raced in the Ardennes region, the relentless onslaught of climbs in the final 100km ensure only the strongest rider is victorious. The final Monument of the year doesn’t take place in Spring, but rather in autumn. Il Lombardia or “Tour of Lombardy” takes the cyclists around the scenic surrounds of Lake Como. It’s often considered a “climbers classic” with longer ascents less favourable to the power men who dominate the earlier Spring Classics.
